This past weekend I was left with the duty of watering my son’s plants so I was worried because gardening is not my forte, however, I do enjoy the fruit of his labor and watching him grow in his love for horticulture so I set out to do my best to keep them alive over the weekend. So, after returning home after a very long hot day, as I was watering his zucchini plants I panicked because I noticed they were leaning over really bad and I didn’t have a clue what was wrong with them. However, I thought maybe they are just thirsty and need water since it had been such a hot day. So, I proceeded to water them generously until I felt that they had sufficient water. As I was doing this, I prayed over them for the Holy Spirit to breathe His life onto them so that they will regain their health and stature and will continue to grow and bear their fruit. Well the next evening, when I went back to check on them, I noticed that they were standing back upright and blooming and looked completely different than they did before. So, I thought to myself, hmm I guess water was what they needed to bring them back to life and God answered my prayer. Then I thought isn’t that how it is with us, sometimes we feel lifeless, thirsty, weary, weak and in need of refreshing and to be brought back to life just like those zucchini plants? And just like the only thing that helped the plants was water, the only thing that will help us is the living water found in Jesus. He spoke to the woman drawing water at the well.
John 4:13-14 “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life”
John 7:37 He says “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart”.
I don’t know about you but marching out this faith walk can get tiresome and I find myself feeling weak, parched, lifeless, and thirsty just like those plants. I mean let’s face it life is hard with all the battles, problems, trials and issues and without Jesus living water we will quickly start leaning over just like those plants in need of life and strength. But just like I watered those plants, we can go to Jesus and He will fill us up with His living water, His Spirit, that will breathe new life on us, strengthen us so we can thrive and continue to bear fruit and we will be like that garden. Jesus tells us in the Word that that when we depend on the Lord, he will guide us, satisfy us when we are dry and make us strong and that we will be just like his garden well-watered and never run dry.
Isaiah 58:11 “And I will always guide you and satisfy you with good things. I will keep you strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of water that never goes dry.
